Dr Katrina Kissock is a Research Fellow in Nutrition Implementation Research and Food Policy at The George Institute for Global Health, as well as a Heart Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow and Conjoint Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at UNSW.

Her work is positioned at the intersection of nutrition, cardiovascular disease prevention, and public health, with a particular focus on global strategies to reduce sodium intake and improve heart health.

Dr Kissock’s research primarily centres on scaling up the switch from regular salt to potassium-enriched salt, aiming to save thousands of lives worldwide by reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease. She also leads research on whole grains, examining their health benefits, how they are defined, developing global recommendations, and translating these messages for consumers.

Her expertise spans cardiovascular disease, sodium reduction, whole grains, dietary intake, and public health, and she has contributed to research and collaborations across a number of countries including Nigeria, China, Sri Lanka, the United States, United Kingdom, Fiji, Sweden, France, and Denmark.

Her work is designed to inform and influence public health policy, clinical guidelines, and food industry practices, supporting the adoption of evidence-based nutrition interventions at scale.

Dr Kissock is also an Accredited Practising Dietitian with experience in chronic disease and youth mental health, further strengthening her impact across research, practice, and mentoring.
